The Play:
Somewhere in a poor part of Texas
For twenty years the 'Bonnie Stardust traveling Country and Western road show', has been hitching up its skirts and flashing its pretty little ankles for all those low down butt sore cowboys that oil forgot. But the bright lights have been shining for too long, and it's all looking a little faded. Just where do they go from here? Why did Bonnie start this charade in the first place? Dressing up like Dolly has it's drawbacks. When you can no longer hold on to your dreams or your waistline, what is there left to do?
Some of us fantasies about a more exciting lifestyle. Others do something about it.........
after all, the brave might not live forever, but the cautious don't live at all.
The action takes place in a mobile dressing room.

Howdy Partner
Oldbury Rep Players are staring in a new production written
by ORP member Sue Downing. The Limestone Cowboys opens at the Barlow Theatre, Spring
Walk, on Wednesday March 13 until 16 for a special studio
premiere.
Billed as a bittersweet comedy, Limestone Cowboys stars Sam Gessey as a Dolly Parton lookalike whose show is suffering and her co-stars know something must be done. A newcomer takes them on an emotional roller-coaster ride and the show promises to be a great hit.
Sue said: "The play is about reinventing yourself and how you can work and live with people without really knowing them. I'm inspired by cowboys and Elvis - this is the first full length play I have written. I have always wanted to do it and I hope we have a full house."

Country quartet
Sue Downing directs her very own perceptive play and her
company of four ensure that she emerges a winner.
Samantha Gessey is the Dolly Parton lookalike who has been
going too long as the centrepiece of a traveling Country
and western road show, and who finally finds she has a far
more important act to put on.
It is easier to warm to her in the second half, when tenderness shows itself in the real Bonnie Stardust and she faces up to the arrival of her apparent successor in the shape of Jade (Tracey Sheldon).
Stephen Downing is the Scots transvestite choreographer somewhere in Texas, while tom bird is the insatiable cowboy lover who completes a quirky foursome.
An amusing and very human evening.

Bittersweet days of a Dolly lookalike
There's some exciting new writing for amateur theatre, as John Slim reports
Oldbury Rep's sue Downing has written four pantomimes and several sketches and has now come up with her first full-length play.
Limestone Cowboys is the story of a traveling country and western road-show fronted by a Dolly Parton lookalike who has seen better days. Sue wrote it last year and it will will be presented in the studio of the Barlow Theatre from the 13th to 16th of March.
"Some people have thought about reinventing themselves but some of the characters in the play have taken it a bit further than just thinking about it"
"Two of the characters are impersonators, which is a modern phenomenon. The Dolly Parton impersonator has been doing it for 20 years and realises she is a bit past it. She's losing her touch, along with her man and her waistline"
It all emerges as a bittersweet comedy and sounds pleasingly intriguing.
