The Panto:

Join Mother Goose, Silly Billy, King Satupon and the gallant Prince Charles as they journey through the haunted underworld to save Gertie Goose from the clutches of the evil Nightmare and his vile assistant, Wartnose the Witch.

Will the journey be sucessful? Will our heroes be able to save ther village? The only thing we can be sureof is that there will be fun and frolics aplenty in this years sparkling panto.

Reviews:

(Birmingham & District Theatre Guild)

"I have to admit that panto is far from being my favourite theatrical entertainment. So it was perhaps a little reluctantly that I agreed to take my ten year old great niece to see "Mother Goose". I came out of the theatre two and a half hours later with a somewhat different slant on the age old art of panto. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

The costumes were excellent, the sets were equally as good as many professional ones that I have seen and the whole evening came together in a way that all panto's should; lots of the old well loved bits, you know, the ghosts, the dodgy bench and the villains dungeon. The cast gave excellent performances and were obviously enjoying the whole evening as much as the kids in the audience (and the adult kids), and they certainly let everyone within earshot know they were having a fantastic time. The dancers again gave a truly professional touch to the evening although a couple of the younger ones need to remember that a smile goes down better with the audience than a dead pan expression. I was particularly impressed with Silly Billy (Mark Stokes), Mother Goose (Alan Groucott), Gertie Goose (Beckie Skillam), King Satupon (Rob Hodgiss), Nightmare (Carl Bamber, the Cain Dingle of Oldbury) and his, I am sure lovely assistant, Wartnose; what a wonderful Rula Lenska hair do.

If I dare to criticise such a splendid evening it must be that I am sure everyone would have liked to have seen the goose that laid the golden egg (Garry the Goose really Lee Winstanley), given a bit more business as the audience obviously warmed to him from the moment he walked, (or waddled) onto the stage.

The music, sound, lights and effects were also handled extremely well and added greatly to the evening. You will note that at no time have I used the word Amateur as there was nothing amateur about this production. Nearly forgot! Loved the puppets.

Well done Oldbury. Book me three tickets for next year."
